Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to book? Yes. Stays are pre-payment only and we are often full! We’d hate to turn you away. Click on the Book Now button.

Is there a minimum stay? No. You can book for just one night if that’s all you can fit in.

Why can’t I book for longer? We are only open for long weekends: Thursday-Sunday nights, plus Monday nights on a bank holiday.

What time can I arrive? Between 1pm & 7pm. Please do not arrive any earlier – it gives departing campers time to leave and us a chance to keep the site nice and clean and get ready for your arrival. If you cannot arrive before 7pm, please email before booking.

What time do I need to leave? By 11am. When we are full or on closing day, we do have to be very strict about this.

Where do I pitch? We do not have designated pitches, nor allocate or reserve spaces. One big field with plenty of room for everyone – you choose your spot! Please just keep tracks and footpaths clear and respect others’ personal space (6m is a good minimum space as a guide).

Can I arrive by bicycle? Absolutely! We are close to some great cycling routes and have our lovely cycle hut to store your bike. We even offer a reduced rate for bikepackers (and backpackers!) – email before booking. And there is plenty of room for kids to ride their bikes too, watching out for vehicles of course and being mindful that little wheels can pick up some speed down the slope!

Do you accept roof tents? Yes!

Are campervans allowed? Yes, but we only accept ‘smallish’ (no longer than 6m, no higher than 2.8m) off-grid campervans. Please note we do not have any van facilities (waste, water or hook up). It’s fine to bring an awning too.

What about motorhomes? Sorry but motorhomes, caravans and trailer tents are not allowed.

Can I sleep in my hammock? Yes! If you’re travelling light, there’s a corner of our woods which is perfect for a hammock/ tarp set up.

Where can I leave my car? You can park where you pitch but please only bring two vehicles per booking. We try to protect our peace, grass and planet by asking campers to minimise driving around the campsite, keeping to the vehicle tracks and driving slowly, with extreme caution.

Do you accept dogs? We welcome well behaved dogs. They must be kept on a lead at all times. Please clean up after your dog and put all dog poo, bagged, into the general waste bin. If your dog is disruptive or causes annoyance to other campers, we may have to ask you to leave. We have no limit to the number of dogs on the site, and we have footpaths popular with dog walkers along our boundaries, so if your dog is reactive to other dogs, people including children, it’s likely that you, your dog and your fellow campers probably wouldn’t have the best camping experience.

Are you family friendly? Very much so! We love to see kids enjoying our site but please keep a close eye on them, especially if they venture into the woods at the bottom of the field as a road backs onto those woods. Our big ‘Sand Castle’ is definitely in bounds! Our site is very natural, and well nature isn’t all that smooth and even, so there are some stingers and brambles around the edges and the ground is lumpy and bumpy in parts.

Can I have a firepit or BBQ? We do allow them (under watchful eyes!) but if the fire risk is deemed too great due to extended periods of hot weather, we reserve the right to ban them. Firepits can be rented from us – these can be used to cook food or just for a fire – pre-book as we only have a limited number. You may bring your own firepit or BBQ but it must be sufficiently off the ground so as not to damage the grass.  Disposable BBQs are not permitted. Logs can be purchased from us on-site, please don’t take from our woodland habitats.

Is there drinking water? All water on the site is mains fed and safe to drink. No need to bring shop-bought water – just refillable water containers. None of our water is heated.

Is there any electricity? We have no power on the campsite. Zero secret sockets that you can use to charge your phone, so charge up everything before you come (or even better, enjoy some device free time). A power bank might be useful to bring. Maybe a torch too. Please do not run your vehicle engine for charging whilst on site. Generators are not permitted.

Is there phone signal? Vodafone & O2 work well, EE not so much.

Do you have a shop? There is no campsite shop (we only sell logs). The nearest convenience store is in Tongham.

Is there a fridge? Nope. We recommend you bring your own cool box.

What do I do with my rubbish? Please reduce and separate all your rubbish into the appropriate bins: there are food, recycling and general waste bins located beside the wagon. We have no capacity for broken equipment – please take it home with you. Please leave as little trace as possible, for others campers and the wildlife.

Is there a noise policy? Quiet time is from 10pm until 8am. Treat your fellow campers to a peaceful night – canvas affords little noise protection!

Can I play music? Outside of quiet hours, at a low level only (most of our campers would rather be able to hear the birds singing).

Are ball games allowed? If there’s space and it’s not annoying (or hitting!) other campers, it’s fine with us.

Can we explore everywhere? Please don’t enter the field behind the North Downs Way or the woods behind the facilities (ensure your kids stay out too as this is a working part of the estate). The woods along the bottom of the field are ours and are free to roam. Off the site, please stick to footpaths. Nearby Puttenham Common is a large open access area of the estate, excellent for exploring.

Can I smoke or vape? Smoking or vaping isn’t allowed in any public areas on the campsite. Please pick up and bin your cigarette butts. No smoking in the woodlands.

Can I fly my drone? Sorry, drones are not permitted.

Is there any medical provision? There is no first-aider on site but a first aid kit is available. Nearest Emergency Departments are at the Royal Surrey County Hospital GU2 7XX and Frimley Park Hospital GU16 7UJ.

Can my friends or family visit? To retain the peace and space for our campers, we do not allow day visitors. Any exceptions must be pre-approved by email and will incur a charge.

Can we come as a group? Waggoners is a peaceful, nature-focused campsite designed to offer a calm and relaxing experience for all our guests. To maintain this atmosphere, we kindly discourage large groups and parties. We do not allow any groups of more than 18 people, nor hen or stag parties. If you are planning to visit as a group, please keep your numbers small and be aware that you will be expected to be especially courteous to other campers. This means keeping noise to a minimum, respecting quiet hours, and ensuring your group does not impact the peaceful enjoyment of the site or the surrounding natural environment. Large gatherings or rowdy behaviour are not suitable for Waggoners and may result in your group being asked to leave.

Can I hire the whole campsite for a private event? No, sorry. But we do have an event space on the estate: Hampton Estate | Myrtle’s Courtyard

What is the payment & cancellation policy? A deposit of 15% is required at the time of booking, with the outstanding balance to be paid seven days before arrival. If the booking is made less than seven days before arrival, the full amount is required at the time of booking. There is a no refund policy, for deposits or full amounts, even in the event of cancellation, but we will try to move your booking to an alternative date within the same season, subject to availability. Any booking still with an outstanding balance on the day before arrival may be cancelled. Bookings can be amended up to the morning of arrival.
